Tokenization of Real-world Assets

On June 20, 2023, Dr. Ravi Chamria (CoFounder & CEO, Zeeve) and Alik, Blockchain Professional, conducted an insightful webinar on “Tokenization of Real-world Assets.”

Dr.Ravi started by giving an overview of what will be in the webinar. Some of them include: 

• Tokenization of real-world assets, a trending concept. 
• Digital technologies like Real Estate Investment Trusts and exchange-traded funds.
• The potential disruption that tokenization can bring to the asset management industry.

Dr. Ravi highlights the challenges in the existing Asset Management space, such as lower liquidity, difficulty in fractionalizing assets like real estate or luxury items, and the need for efficient systems. 

He explains two types of asset tokens: those that exist entirely on-chain and those where the asset is off-chain but has a digital representation on-chain. 

Dr. Ravi also defines asset tokenization as the process of creating digital tokens on a blockchain ledger to represent underlying assets, which can be digital or physical. 

He further explains the tokenization of real-world assets on blockchain platforms. Tokenized assets can include tangible items like real estate and commodities and intangible items like intellectual properties or brand equity. 

Dr.Ravi discusses the security and transparency benefits of tokenized assets on the blockchain. He also explains that blockchain technology ensures data immutability, making it highly secure and tamper-proof. 

He further explains the tokenizing of real-world assets and the key components involved. He also mentions examples of asset tokenization, such as real estate and carbon credit tokenization. 

Dr.Ravi also highlights several examples of successful tokenization of real-world assets. He mentions Goldman Sachs’ digital bond trial, demonstrating that bonds can be quickly settled even if different chains are involved. 

Dr. Ravi further delves into the discussion of the tokenization of real-world assets and provides examples of how various organizations utilize this concept. 

He explains the components of a tokenization platform, including primary issuance, secondary marketplaces, smart contracts, and distribution networks, and discusses the tokenization of real-world assets. He also explains that land tokenization is one of the earliest use cases. While there are challenges, such as the need for clear titles, initiatives are happening in various jurisdictions, including India. 

Lastly, he discusses how the tokenization of real-world assets can ensure the security of the underlying asset. He also mentions tokenization of assets like mining rights allows the pre-selling of assets to raise funds, benefiting investors and asset owners. 

Dr. Ravi then wraps up the discussion and thanks the viewers for participation. He then invites the audience to participate in an interactive session, encouraging questions and further discussions.
