Dr. Ravi Chamaria, Co-founder and CEO at Zeeve, had an insightful conversation with Andy, founder of The Rollup, regarding the current state of modular rollups and the opportunities they enable. If you’re even remotely interested in rollups & modularity, you must watch the video.
Speakers first cleared the basics of the modularity of rollups and how they differ from traditional, monolithic blockchains. Andy explained this with an example of a football team. Ravi also added that the ease of managing monolithic blockchains comes at a cost or limitations that modular blockchains fix.
How is the rollup space from a developer’s standpoint? As more and more of the Web3 space is adopting the rollup and layer-2 space, is it making any meaningful changes for the ease of developers? Andy answered these questions optimistically. He gave an example of a major layer 1 in the previous cycle that is going to deploy its Optimistic rollup on the OP stack.
He also mentioned some flaws with the Solidity and programming problems of the EVM code. Hence, the emergence of rollups that allow working with traditional programming languages like Java, Rust, and JavaScript is inevitable, which will bring more non-crypto native developers into the space.
Data availability on blockchain was also discussed in detail in the conversation, including why it matters, what projects are enabling data availability on rollups, and how they’re doing it.
Both leaders also discussed the importance of RaaS platforms now before discussing the functionality, economics, and decentralization aspects of a sequencer in the layer-2 space.
If these points sound interesting to you, let me reassure you that these are just points; the real conversation goes a lot deeper into each individual topic. Don’t miss it. Watch it now:
